so enter 450 sx-f. bought it brand new from a local dealer, 2011 model, still with an FCR carb and twin cam engine that has been around since 2007.

found out my old akrapovic slip-on from my 530 also fit on the new bike with a couple of minor adjustments. so that one went on, along with a set of custom graphics, which were a pain in the ass to apply on the new style plastics KTM is now using.



hourmeter installed to keep track of maintenance and such, inductive sensor that picks up the eletric current running through the high tension line to the spark plug. couldn't help myself and also got a set of pro taper evo handlebars with black renthal grips to complement the rest of the bike. ufo jumpy handguards are about as crash resistant as they come when you're looking at handguards so got a set of those to keep the clutch and brake MC safe. since KTM now uses a link system on their MX bikes you no longer have a neat little spot between the frame and the swingarm to put a catchcan, so got an ufo universal catch can and mounted it on the front along with some black carb vent hoses.




new wheels arrived a couple weeks later. talon hubs with excel rims. 16,5" front and a 5" wide rear, contemplated a 5.5" but went with a 5" in the end to make my life a little easier when it came to changing wheels. dunlop slick on the front, precut michelin slick on the rear. 14-48 gearing with a DID ERT2 non O-ring chain. will probably go to 14-45, 48 at the rear is ok for short tracks but I could do with a little more top-end.




had to wait another couple weeks but the brakes finaly arrived. full beringer kit, 6 piston caliper which easily cleared the 16,5" front rim to my surprise, 310 mm cast iron rotor, stainless steel braided line, BRO-12 master cylinder which is a 17,5 mm.



to make sure no dirt would get inside the motor I put a small K&N crankcase filter on the end of the engine breather line.


all the basics had been covered so it was time to ride. first track I hit was pretty dirt heavy so the stock MX suspension did alright as far as that goes, just stiffened everything up a bit.



was real dusty out there that day, cleaned everything up and snapped some shots of the completed bike.
